How It Works
-
You click below to give your contact info and basic details.
-
We’ll schedule a free call for ~20 minutes to see how we "fit".
-
You’ll fill out forms securely online.
-
We’ll meet for “Intake”. It's the first session about history & setting goals/expectations.
Then depending on what you need:
-
You’ll come for 50 minute weekly sessions OR bring your child for 45 minute weekly play therapy sessions OR be matched with a therapy group.
-
After the first 4 sessions with the child, I meet again with parents. And regularly in future as well.
-
We’ll transition to meeting less often when specific goals are reached.
-
We’ll celebrate your growth & wrap up.
-
You’ll go forward with your personal support system!
Okay, yes, some of these steps are quicker and more straightforward than others. That’s why you won’t do this alone.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: No, I am not in network. A "superbill" will be uploaded to the client portal the first week of each month that shows the fees from the previous month. If desired, you may file with your insurance company for any out of network benefits under your specific plan. My clients are responsible for paying me directly at the time of service.
Q: How long will I be in therapy?
A: Difficult to say. It’s a range from a few months to sometimes a few years. I cannot promise results at any time, but I will be honest about the limits of my expertise.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: $160 for Individual Counseling and Play Therapy Sessions. $195 for the Initial Intake Session.
Group rates & therapist events vary. Please see the services page.
Sessions will be billed within 7 days following an appointment. Any fees overdue by more than one session result in the suspension of all upcoming sessions until the balance is paid.
Q: What are Joy’s qualifications?
A: Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Texas State University 2017, State of Texas Licensed Professional Counselor #78759, National Certified Counselor, Registered Play Therapist, President Hill Country Chapter of Texas Association for Play Therapy
Q: What are Solution-Focused Play Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?
A: This strengths-based approach to psychotherapy is based on solution-building rather than problems. With a present & future orientation, I focus on exceptions and encourage clients to do more of what works. Scaling helps assess progress towards observable goals of the client’s preferred future.
