About the event
This advanced discussion group invites play therapists to reflect on how their culturally embedded childhood play experiences shape their therapeutic work. We’ll explore how their personal histories, shaped by cultural values, influence the current work of 3 different play therapists through a conversational interview.
Diana Garza-Louis LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S, Abbie Balat LPC, CCTP & Tala Halik LPC, NCC will share memories and insights into how their own cultures expressed or limited certain aspects of play, and how these influences can be mined for multicultural humility.
Attendees may compare their own past experiences with those of the panelists, explore toys or games that can facilitate cultural expression in therapy, and identify ways to honor clients’ culturally embedded strengths through play. The interview will be guided by Joy Cannon LPC-S, RPT-S with questions based on recent research directions.
